One of the most popular destinations in Emilia-Romagna for those seeking a seaside getaway and relaxation is undoubtedly Lido delle Nazioni, a resort town within the municipality of Comacchio. In fact, Lido delle Nazioni is part of the so-called Lidi Ferraresi, of which there are seven in total: Lido di Volano, Lido di Pomposa, Lido degli Scacchi, Lido di Spina, Lido degli Estensi, and Porto Garibaldi. Lido degli Estensi, Porto Garibaldi and Lido delle Nazioni, however, are considered the most famous, boasting excellent facilities and attracting both Italian and foreign visitors during the summer months.

Lido delle Nazioni offers not only a vast sandy beach for sunbathing in peace but also a large artificial lake, known as Lago delle Nazioni, perfect for water sports enthusiasts. To this is added the presence of numerous attractions such as a large amusement park, a riding school and an important spa centre, as well as the organisation of concerts, events and markets during the summer.

Lido delle Nazioni Beach

Lido delle Nazioni features a fine sandy beach washed by calm waters that has received the Blue Flag award multiple times for water purity and environmental sustainability. Here the sandy seabed slopes away gradually and is therefore perfect for young children and non-swimmers who can bathe with complete peace of mind. Along the shoreline you’ll find both free beach areas and sections with beach clubs that offer all necessary services such as showers, play areas for children, entertainment, sporting activities and beach volleyball and beach tennis courts.

Along the seafront promenade, markets are often set up during summer and shows are organised, whilst numerous establishments along the beach frequently programme sunset aperitifs and live music parties that can go on late into the night. Food lovers will also be well catered for, as Lido delle Nazioni is home to a large number of restaurants of excellent quality serving fresh fish dishes and other local culinary delights. As mentioned, completing the offer of this splendid destination is the artificial basin, called Lago delle Nazioni, where you can enjoy activities such as windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.

What to do at Lido delle Nazioni

Lido delle Nazioni is not just about sea and beaches but also nature, history and relaxation, as there are various activities to enjoy and points of interest to discover in the town. Your visit can begin at Piazza Italia, the heart of the resort where events are frequently organised during summer and where you’ll find various shops and boutiques. For a few hours of wellbeing, you can head to Thermae Oasis, a spa centre where saltbromoiodic water from local springs is used, which is excellent for wellbeing and also for treating certain conditions. In town, you should not miss a visit to the Capanno di Garibaldi, the place where the fugitive Giuseppe Garibaldi arrived on 3 August 1849 with his wife Anita, who was dying.

For hours surrounded by nature, you can visit Valle Bertuzzi by bicycle or on foot, where you can spot pink flamingos and many other bird species. From Lido delle Nazioni you can easily reach the historic centre of the beautiful lagoon town of Comacchio, famous for its bridges and characteristic narrow streets. Two other stops worth mentioning for those who love outdoor activities are the Parco Del Delta del Po and the Valli di Comacchio, considered among the most extensive wetlands in all of Italy.

Where to stay at Lido delle Nazioni

Lido delle Nazioni is a particularly appealing destination not only for those who love the sea but also for those who enjoy sports and water activities thanks to the presence of the lake of the same name. For this reason, especially during the summer weeks of peak season, the town is much in demand and it is therefore advisable to book your stay in advance to find the most suitable accommodation for your needs.

The range of facilities along this stretch of coastline is very wide and diverse, ranging from resorts to small hotels, from bed and breakfasts to campsites.
